Job Summary:

The DevOps/Systems Engineer is responsible for the deployment, automation, monitoring, and management of FranklinCovey’s web-based assets. This highly collaborative position will work closely with our development and security teams to build and improve current tools and services that support deploying, monitoring, and managing FranklinCovey sites, systems, and applications. The DevOps/Systems Engineer will identify automation opportunities and utilize this information to design and develop automation solutions that improve operations and efficiencies. The role will advocate for and promote both knowledge sharing and the DevOps culture across the Information Technology Department.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Continuous research and implementation of new technologies and related tools for growth in the agile development environment.
  • Provide direct server support during various operations such as deployment and general production.
  • Collaborate with developers and security team to ensure new environments meet requirements and conform to best practices.
  • Design, implement, and test infrastructures.
  • Assess and prioritize requests from operations, development, and product teams based on needs of each team.
  • Monitor automation; make sure that the correct monitors are deployed at the application level so that any failures can be quickly detected and repaired.
  • Manage day-to-day systems administration – user creation, systems provisioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Build, maintain, and scale infrastructure for Production, QA, and Dev environments.
  • Develop and maintain Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery systems.
  • Work closely with Development and QA teams to help ensure end-to-end quality.
  • Write and maintain infrastructure documentation.
  • Responsible for production issues and provides level 2 response to infrastructure incidents and alerts.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in both a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to work on demand schedule including on-call rotation and odd hours as needed.
  • 2+ years managing Amazon Web Services (CloudFormation, EC2, S3, ELB, ASG, RDS, etc).
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations with a nonstop service.
  • Working understanding of web application and scripting languages (PHP, Python, Ruby, Bash, and Java).
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and practices.
  • Strong background in database administration (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL) including query optimization, replication, and performance tuning to maintain availability and scalability.
  • Strong background in Linux administration (RedHat, CentOS, Amazon Linux), and Windows administration experience is a plus.
  • Experience automating deployment of Linux applications, system configurations and security settings (Spacewalk, Salt, Puppet, Chef, etc).
  • Experience deploying scalable web infrastructure with Apache/NGINX/PHP/PHP-FPM.
  • Experience working with code repositories (Git, SVN).
  • Experience with continuous integration tools (Bamboo, Jenkins, etc).
  • Experience designing and maintaining reliable, high-availability production systems and services.
