Main Purpose of Job:

The British Government’s Embassy in Washington, DC has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to join the Security Team as a Security Officer. This role supports and develops the special relationship between the UK and the US, engaging in international diplomacy to make a global impact.

The successful candidate will provide support to the Regional Overseas Security Manager and locally employed Security Manager, ensuring effective systems are in place to manage security emergencies and keep all staff aware of security regulations and compliance procedures. Knowledge of Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office Security guidance systems and established Embassy security procedures is essential.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide efficient security guidance and advice to customers.
  • Ensure adherence to security regulations.

Working Patterns:

The role requires varied working patterns, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotational schedule. Due to the customer-facing nature of the role, remote or flexible working is not permitted. The Security Team operates from the Embassy, and attendance at the office as per the shift rotation is mandatory.

Additional Information:

Appointable candidates who are unsuccessful may be placed on a reserve list for 6-12 months for similar roles. Non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff may have their salaries abated if they are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary.
